Ubuntu Care: Virtual Clinic for Remote Healthcare in Sub-Saharan Africa
A large population in Sub-Saharan Africa faces high mortality rates, primarily due to poor access to quality healthcare, a shortage of medical practitioners, inadequate infrastructure, and delayed emergency responses, where simple interventions like CPR or timely medical consultations could save lives. To address these challenges, we developed Ubuntu Care, a virtual clinic designed to deliver remote care to patients. This innovative solution includes an online platform/mobile application and a USSD code to cater to individuals without smartphones. It allows patients, even in the most remote parts of Africa, to access healthcare from professionals without incurring the costs and time associated with travel.
This project was a collaborative effort involving multidisciplinary teams, including healthcare professionals, software developers, and community health workers. My role involved coordinating between these teams to ensure seamless integration of the platform’s features and addressing user needs effectively. Through active collaboration and communication, we successfully developed a solution that has the potential to transform healthcare access in Sub-Saharan Africa.
